Taste and use
This is what makes Spanish plums so special:
- Taste: The "Suplum" is a special plum variety with golden yellow, juicy flesh and smooth, dark red skin. This cross between a plum and an apricot combines the best of both worlds: the mild sweetness of the apricot and the juicy aroma of the Japanese plum with a slightly sour skin.
- Quality features: Completely untreated plums. Straight from the field to the table - grown with care, sun and passion.
- Use: Best enjoyed fresh, but also suitable for fruit salads or refined chutneys. Sort out soft fruit first and store the remaining fruit in a cool place. Rosario recommends: "If you like slightly sour fruit, eat it as soon as possible or refrigerate it. If you prefer them sweeter, leave them to ripen for a few days at room temperature - and only then refrigerate them. They are particularly sweet when eaten peeled."
Cultivation and ecology
This is how Spanish plums are grown:
- Cultivation method: Organic, regenerative agriculture. These plums are grown on a small area together with other stone fruits and olives.
- Producers: These plums come from Rosario, known as Charo, who cultivates plums and nectarines on her small farm of just 2.5 hectares. Between the cities of Huelva and Seville stretches a landscape of rolling hills, fields, olive groves and orchards. The region is known for the cultivation of stone fruit, citrus fruits, berries and olives - thanks to its Mediterranean climate with hot summers, mild winters and fertile soil. Charo has planted young olive trees here, which will later be used to produce her own olive oil. She is particularly dedicated to fruit growing: she is convinced that regenerative agriculture, which focuses on the health of the soil and the promotion of biodiversity, is the way to go. During the main season, Charo is supported by three seasonal helpers. Rosario is a member of the Tierra y Libertad cooperative, our trusted partner in Andalusia.
