The basil in this pesto grows in Piero Mulè's fields in the Camporeale region of Sicily, without chemical fertilizers and therefore 100% organic. As our partner cooperative uses its own "Femminello" lemon juice as a natural preservative, the recipe for this pesto contains no artificial additives. Try this harmonious combination of basil and peeled almonds on a plate of "Timilia" pasta!

Taste and use
This is what makes Sicilian basil pesto so special:
- Taste: The harmonious combination of basil and peeled almonds comes into its own in this pesto made from high-quality ingredients.
- Quality features: This pesto is mildly flavored and contains no artificial additives. It is refined with the natural preservative "Femminello" lemon juice. Apart from salt and organic pepper, all the ingredients come from our partner cooperative Valdibella's own regional production.
- Use: The basil pesto goes very well with "Timilia" pasta. Mix the pesto with a little pasta water and stir into the pasta while it is still steaming. If you don't use the whole jar, cover the pesto well with olive oil, reseal and store in the fridge.
Cultivation and ecology
This is how the pesto ingredients are grown:
- Cultivation method: Organic cultivation.
- Producers: The basil for this pesto is grown by Piero Mulè, who also cultivates tomatoes for our special passata. Francesco Grisafi supplies the "Tuono" almonds and Giovanni Argroffi the aromatic "Femminello" lemon juice. They are all members of the Valdibella cooperative. The expansion of the product line by Valdibella with ingredients from its own value chain enables the producers to achieve greater diversity in cultivation and diversification in the sale of individual products. Valdibella uses the "Addio Pizzo" label to declare that it does not pay protection money to criminal organizations.
This is how the price is made up
The members of the Valdibella cooperative receive 3 euros per kilogram of basil, 0.90 euros per kilogram of olives and 2.30 euros per kilogram of unshelled almonds.

È un pesto molto raffinato, mandorla limone gli conferiscono un gusto particolare. Tuttavia, aggiunto alla pasta risulta un po' asciutto, occorre aggiungere olio evo e anche un pizzico di sale. Si adatta pure ad essere spalmato su friselle o crackers. Un prodotto di alta qualità. Peccato che le etichette dei vasetti non si stacchino nemmeno con l'acqua bollente e ho dovuto buttarli.
