This cocoa is grown by our partner cooperative in Kerala in beautiful forest gardens together with spices, coconut palms and cashew nuts in a climate-friendly way. The cocoa specialists at Garçoa have peeled and roasted it for you, so the aroma is particularly intense.

Taste and use

This is what makes roasted cocoa nibs so special:

  • Taste: The cocoa sample from our partners in Kerala convinced the chocolate makers at Garçoa: a very fine cocoa with a typical chocolaty taste and a slight hint of dried fruit. When roasted, the aroma is particularly intense.
  • Quality features: It is a blend of "Trinitario" and "Forastero" cocoa. The beans are roasted and peeled in small batches by Garçoa's cocoa specialists.
  • Use: The roasted nibs are suitable as a baking ingredient, for muesli or simply as a source of energy in between meals.

Cultivation and ecology

This is how persimmon beans are grown:

  • Cultivation method: Cultivation in multi-stage agroforestry systems, without the use of pesticides. These cocoa beans are grown in the beautiful forest gardens of our partners in Kerala. In addition to cocoa, the fields also grow various spices, cashew nuts, coconut palms, fruit and vegetables. This type of agriculture protects biodiversity and is also climate-friendly: a lot of CO2 is stored in the soil and in the trees and there is almost no need for aids such as machines and fertilizers.
  • Producers: The small farms of the members of the "Fair Trade Alliance Kerala" are on average just one hectare in size. The farmers grow a wide variety of products for export, for the local village markets, but also for themselves. Many have an additional income because family members work in the city or even abroad and support the farming families.

This is how the price is made up

Producers receive USD 5 per kilogram of cocoa from the port in southern India. This corresponds to around 1.5 times the world market price (source: icco.org).
