These dried cherries have the perfect balance between sweetness and fruity acidity! Christoph Rickenbach has dried some of his organic standard cherries especially for Crowd Container. This product supports the preservation of ecologically valuable standard trees. By the way: it takes almost seven kilos of fresh cherries to make one kilo of dried cherries.

Taste and use

That's what makes these Swiss dried cherries so special:

  • Taste: In the mouth, these dried cherries develop an intense tension between sweet and sour - the natural alternative to the unhealthy treats popular with children from the kiosk.
  • Quality features: 7 kilos of fresh cherries make 1 kilo of dried cherries. This valuable product is made from cherries from high-stem trees, the preservation of which is of great ecological importance as a habitat for many endangered animal species.
  • Use: When the cherry season is over, these sweet and sour dried fruits comfort us over the winter months - as a snack between meals, in muesli or pickled into a delicious dessert.

Cultivation and ecology

This is how the cherries are grown:

  • Cultivation method: Organic farming. 100% of these cherries come from Swiss high-stem trees. Produced according to the guidelines of High stem Suisse. These include various old cherry varieties such as "Hedelfinger", "Heidegger", "Schauenburger" and many more.
  • Producers: There are over 140 standard trees on the 34-hectare Riedackerhof farm. The trees were planted several decades ago by Christoph Rickenbach's grandfather. At that time, cherries were an important industry in the Fricktal and, in addition to dessert fruit, schnapps was also distilled. Even today, the standard trees still characterize the landscape and are an important habitat for many endangered animal species. The fact that fruit is still grown traditionally and harvested with high ladders on the Riedackerhof is mainly thanks to Sepp. He is convinced: "There's no comparison with the watery fruit from some stores - the ripe fruit from my big trees tastes really good and keeps me fit. During the cherry harvest, I live almost exclusively on cherries for several weeks!" Here you can find our blog post about standard cherries.
