Taste and use

That is what makes these Swiss high-stem cherries so special:

  • Taste: Cherries from high-stem trees are very aromatic.
  • Quality features: Harvested the day before, delivered to you the next day - these cherries come straight to you in Zurich. Cherries from high-stem trees are somewhat smaller than those from low-stem trees. But they taste all the better.
  • Use: For eating fresh or preserving. The fruit will keep for 2-3 days in the fridge. Especially after the persistent rainfall of the last few weeks: store the cherries so that they have plenty of space; sort out damaged cherries quickly.

Cultivation and ecology

This is how Swiss high-stem cherries are grown:

  • Cultivation method: Organic cultivation. To 100% Swiss high-stem trees, produced according to the guidelines of High stem Suisse. There are over 140 standard cherry trees on the 34-hectare farm. These include various old varieties such as Hedelfinger, Heidegger and Schauenburger. The high trunk trees provide a habitat for various endangered animal species and help to bind CO2 from the air. In addition to cherries, plums and apples, the Riedackerhof also produces a variety of crops and rears cows.
  • Producers: Christoph Rickenbach took over the Riedackerhof from his father Sepp. The standard cherry trees have a long tradition in the Fricktal: the trees were planted several decades ago by Christoph Rickenbach's grandfather. Back then, cherries were an important industry in the Fricktal and, in addition to dessert fruit, they were also used to distil schnapps.
