Taste and use

This is what makes grated coconut from Kerala so special:

• Taste: The coconut raisins have a mild aroma that develops fully on the palate.
• Quality features: The flakes are obtained 100% from fresh coconuts and gently dried. Our grated coconut contains no additives.
• Use: Grated coconut is suitable for refining desserts, pastries or your morning porridge.

Cultivation and ecology

This is how the coconuts are grown:

• Cultivation method: Cultivation in multi-stage agroforestry systems, without the use of pesticides. The coconuts grow in the beautiful forest gardens of our partners in Kerala. In addition to coconut palms, various spices, cashews, cocoa, coffee, fruit and vegetables also grow in their fields. This type of agriculture protects biodiversity and is also climate-friendly: a lot of CO2 is stored in the soil and in the trees and there is almost no need for aids such as machines and fertilizers.
• Producers: The small farms of the members of the "Fair Trade Alliance Kerala" are on average just one hectare in size. The farmers grow a wide variety of products for export, for the local village markets, but also for themselves. Many have an additional income because family members work in the city or even abroad and support the farming families.

This is how the price is made up

The producers receive USD 0.65 per kilogram of fresh coconuts. We pay USD 10 per kilogram of grated coconut.
