Taste and use
That's what makes these Swiss linseeds so special:
- Taste: Linseeds have a slightly nutty flavor.
- Quality features: The flax for the linseed is grown on small areas on the Riedackerhof farm, where great importance is attached to biodiversity. Linseeds contain digestive fiber, healthy fatty acids and are rich in minerals. In terms of their ingredients, they can easily compete with the trendy chia seeds as a local superfood.
- Use: Suitable as a healthy addition to your muesli, yoghurt or as a fine salad topping. So that the body can absorb the valuable nutrients better, it is worth grinding the seeds in portions for daily use - whether in a spice or coffee grinder. Whole linseeds can be eaten for up to two years if stored correctly. As they are excreted by the body almost undigested, they aid digestion, but only a small proportion of the nutrients contained in the whole seeds are available to the body. Good to know: Flaxseed can become intolerable if taken in the wrong dosage. In large quantities, they have an extremely digestive and laxative effect. 2-3 tablespoons of linseed per day is the maximum dose. If you take flaxseed, always make sure you drink enough fluids.
Cultivation and ecology
This is how flax is grown:
- Cultivation method: Organic cultivation. Flax is particularly valuable in crop rotation, as it relieves the soil after cereal cultivation.
- Producers: Christoph Rickenbach and his father Sepp grow cherries, plums and apples organically on the Riedackerhof farm. There are over 140 standard trees on the 34-hectare farm. The trees were planted several decades ago by Christoph Rickenbach's grandfather. At that time, cherries were an important industry in the Fricktal and, in addition to dessert fruit, schnapps was also distilled. Even today, the standard trees still characterize the landscape and are an important habitat for many endangered animal species.
This is how the price is made up
Christoph Rickenbach receives CHF 4.05 per 400g of linseed from the farm. The entire added value from cultivation and processing remains on the farm.
