FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions
Crowd Container
The model
We organize bulk orders via our online marketplace, which allows you to order organic food from climate-friendly cultivation directly from the producers. Far away from industrial mass production, you get access to authentic food from pesticide-free agriculture. We only import what you have ordered and ensure that the farmers are paid fairly. In this way, we prevent food from being wasted and create transparent supply chains from the field to your plate. Thanks to crowd ordering, you know who produces your food and who earns how much from it.
Is the entire range produced organically?
Our range comes from a resource-conserving and climate-friendly circular farming system that promotes variety and biodiversity and does not use synthetic chemical pesticides. All the food we offer is produced organically.
Why aren't all your products certified organic and Fairtrade?
Crowd Container deliberately refrains from displaying certificates and labels, as we have more trust in our direct relationships than in paper. In addition, certification often involves disproportionate effort for smaller producers, which ultimately benefits the certification industry more than the farmers themselves.
Although a label means that a minimum standard is met in certain areas, standardization does not make sense everywhere. We therefore prefer to rely on trusting relationships in the context of organic farming, where local conditions can also be taken into account in discussions with producers. Here you can find a blog post on the topic of certification using the example of coffee cultivation.
How does Crowd Container ensure that producers keep their promises?
At Crowd Container, we focus on the careful selection of producers and close, long-term contact. Instead of an annual audit - as is usual for certified products - we rely on constant dialog with the farmers and their willingness to receive spontaneous visits to their farms from us, our customers or other experts.
Our products also undergo strict quality controls on a regular basis. They are also tested in the laboratory for ecologically relevant parameters, which allow conclusions to be drawn about the use of pesticides, for example.
We cannot give a final guarantee that we will keep our promises, but we do guarantee open communication. Even on points that don't go as planned. We do not hide behind a label.
In principle, the producers decide at what price they want to sell their organically produced goods. Whenever possible, we draw up a production cost calculation with those responsible and decide together what a sustainable price is. Thanks to this so-called "bottom-up pricing", producers often achieve a multiple of the world market price for their products. In return, we receive high-quality food from small-scale, diversified production that comes from climate-friendly cultivation without pesticides. Our trading system therefore goes beyond the conventional understanding of "Fairtrade" and also ensures fair payment from the farmers' perspective, so that this forward-looking agriculture has a long-term perspective.
We are committed to full transparency and therefore also disclose our costs and prices. You can find a breakdown of the added value for each product in the product description (for each product in the graphic below).
We are convinced that the direct exchange between producers and consumers contributes to fair conditions and mutual appreciation. You can interact with our community on these channels:
- Are you spending your next vacation in one of the countries of origin of your Crowd Container ingredients and would like to visit the producers? Let us knowWe will be happy to put you in touch. The only condition: You report on your experiences on our channels.
- Would you like to take part in our FoodTalks, support selected producers in their farm work or enjoy our products in various restaurants? Click here for our event agenda.
- You can also ask our producers questions in our WhatsApp group or maybe you would like to share one of your recipes that you cook with crowd container products with us? Get in touch if you would like us to add you. If you are not on Whatsapp, you are also welcome to send us a Send e-mail.
Like every importer, we adhere to the strict legal regulations on food safety. Samples of our food are regularly tested in the laboratory. This ensures that all products traded via our marketplace can be consumed without hesitation.
Our partners only offer untreated natural products. Quality characteristics such as color, shape and even taste can therefore vary greatly. For us, these variations are an important part of any product full of character.
Airplane, truck or train?
The transportation of goods by air is taboo for us. All products therefore arrive in Switzerland by ship or overland. We clarify the options and, wherever feasible, opt for the lowest-emission and most climate-friendly option.
For home delivery, we have opted for Swiss Post. Swiss Post is currently the most environmentally friendly delivery service covering the whole of Switzerland. Many parcels are already being delivered using electric vehicles and the entire Swiss Post delivery fleet is to be fully electrified by 2030. What's more, with its Dispobox, Swiss Post is the only delivery service to offer reusable packaging with a closed cycle.
Unloved packaging: why?
Important to know: In terms of CO2 emissions, the way the food is grown is many times more relevant than the packaging. This means that food waste has a much greater impact on the environment than the packaging used to ensure that the products reach you intact. In terms of environmental impact, heavy packaging tends to perform worse than light packaging, which can sometimes also speak in favor of plastic.
Marketplace
No. Each of the collective orders offered will be carried out and you will receive your ordered products regardless of whether a product was out of stock at the end of the campaign or not.
The number of products on offer and available is the quantity that the producers were able to guarantee us. We only sell what nature provides or what could be harvested - in contrast to supermarkets, where there are purchase contracts for producers and where they are fined if they do not meet the quantity.
Depending on the season and availability, not all products can be ordered at all times. Subscribe to our Newsletter and we will inform you by e-mail as soon as your favorite products are available again. You can find a quick overview of upcoming orders here in the Overview of our collective orders.
We reserve your products in the shopping cart for 5 minutes due to the crowd-ordering principle. After that, they will be released for other customers if you do not buy them.

Delivery, payment, defects
We deliver your parcel by Swiss Post in a reusable Dispobox to your front door. The yellow Dispobox is collected by the postman for reuse.
Our offer is currently only available to customers from Switzerland. Unfortunately, orders from abroad cannot be considered.
We do not send seasonal fresh produce such as citrus fruits, avocados, cherries, etc. by post, as this would result in a loss of quality. Fresh produce can be collected from our pick-up stations during the specified time windows. Fruit and vegetables that are not collected are recycled by our partners. In this way, we create a supply chain for fresh produce in which food waste can be completely avoided.
What will the delivery of the products cost me?
The shipping costs are part of the product price and vary depending on the size of your shopping cart.
As the shipping costs included in the product price are based on assumptions of an average basket value (weight, volume, contribution margin) per origin of CHF 150, the shipping costs for orders below this value are not covered by the product price. We therefore charge a shipping surcharge of CHF 4.90 for every order with a basket value of less than CHF 150.
The shipping costs are part of the amount shown in the price transparency chart under "Transport & Logistics", which you can find on every product page.
We communicate the expected month of delivery during the current collective order. Here you will find an overview of the bulk orders. The individual parcels for coffee, products from Sicily and Swiss farm products will be dispatched around three weeks after the end of the bulk order, while products from Kerala will be dispatched around three months after the end of the bulk order.
In the event of delays in harvesting and transportation, we will inform you by e-mail.
