Animal welfare and ecology

This is how bees work:

  • Beekeeping: Beekeeper Gion Grischott's almost 40 bee colonies are spread out over a variety of locations, mainly in the Schams and Averstal valleys. This means there is no density stress and the bees can choose flowers from the whole variety of alpine flora. Over the winter, the bees are fed with their own honey. Gion says: "Many people think this is crazy or uneconomical, but it's important to me." Beekeeping is carried out according to biodynamic principles. For this honey, he has placed the bee colonies near the flowering buckwheat fields of the Dusch organic farm. Buckwheat is a crop that is ideally suited to organic farming. The white flowering buckwheat fields provide a welcome source of food for many insects. In addition, buckwheat does not require any fertilizer - on the contrary: it has the ability to release phosphorus from the soil, from which the subsequent crop can benefit. Buckwheat is used to make wonderful pizzocheri.
  • Producers: Gion Grischott is the manager of the Ferrera waterworks and bees are his most important hobby. The whole family helps out with beekeeping.

When I let the honey melt on my tongue for the first time, it was as if I could hear the whole mountain world inside me again, scent, colors, sound, peace, everything was there, truly a treasure!
